The Story
Zidane and the Tantalus Theatre Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria. To their surprise, however, the princess herself yearned to escape the castle.
Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, fall in with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey. Meeting unforgettable characters like Vivi and Quina along the way, they learn about themselves, the secrets of the Crystal, and a malevolent force that threatens to destroy their world.
The queen of Alexandria has changed. Her armies march, her hunger for power grows, and a pall of mist creeps across the continents of the Mist Continent — the very mist from which monsters are born. Behind it all stands a silver-haired stranger whose designs reach far beyond one kingdom, to the buried twin world of Terra and the crystal at the heart of all things.

Under cover of a theatre performance, Tantalus steals Princess Garnet from Castle Alexandria — only to crash into the Evil Forest and discover the princess wanted to be stolen all along.
Queen Brahne’s armies, armed by the sorcerer Kuja, devour kingdom after kingdom. The party races between Lindblum, Burmecia and Cleyra as war spills across the Mist Continent.
Beyond the shimmer of the illusion lies Terra, a dying world feeding on Gaia — and beyond it, Memoria, where every memory converges on the crystal that binds all life.

Thief · Tantalus Theatre Troupe
A charming thief with a monkey’s tail and no past to speak of, raised by the Tantalus troupe of actor-bandits. Quick with a dagger and quicker with a grin — he lives by one rule: help people, and never look away.
Princess · Summoner of Alexandria
Heir to the throne of Alexandria, who flees her own castle to learn why her mother changed into a stranger. Travelling as “Dagger”, she carries the blood of summoners — and the weight of a kingdom she cannot yet save.
Black Mage
A small black mage with a great big question: why was I born? Clumsy, gentle and impossibly brave, Vivi wields fire and thunder from his staves — and finds his answer in the friends he makes along the way.

Learn new abilities by equipping items. When fully mastered, these abilities can be used even without equipping items — nearly endless customisation.
Fill your Trance gauge as you sustain hits in battle. When fully charged, your characters enter Trance mode, granting them powerful new skills.
Never let items go to waste. Combine two items or pieces of equipment together and make better, stronger items at synthesis shops.
Chocobo Hot and Cold, Jump Rope, Tetra Master — plenty of minigames to enjoy when you’re not off saving the world, with special item rewards.
